Naomi Cohen is a Hartford native who lives in Bloomfield where she and her husband Michael raised their three sons. Both professionally and as a volunteer, Naomi’s passion is to promote educational opportunities for students of all ages and abilities.
Currently Naomi serves as a member of the CT Board of Regents for Higher Education, its Academic & Student Affairs Committee and Human Resources Committee, of which she is Chair.
During a decade as a member of the CT legislature, Naomi served four years as Co-Chair of its Education Committee. She’s been Vice-Chair of both the Education Commission of the States and Bloomfield Board of Education, and Board member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the National Assessment Governing Board. She co-founded Children’s Reading Partners, an organization of volunteer tutors for at-risk pre-K through 5th grade public school students.
State-of-the art learning spaces have been important to Naomi. As Director of Boundless Playgrounds’ Public/Private Partnerships, she helped communities develop environments where children with and without disabilities could play together. As Chair of the Bloomfield Elementary Schools Building Committee, she oversaw renovation of two schools, each of which received national recognition.
Naomi holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Barney School at the University of Hartford.
