Barbara Brown

Barbara has a longstanding relationship with Ben Bronz Academy having been invited to join the Professional Advisory Board shortly after the school first opened. At that time, she was employed as the Director of the Educational Evaluation Department at Newington Children’s hospital, later to become Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where she worked for over 30 years. Before retiring in October 2014, she served as Senior Director of Education and Rehabilitation Services with responsibility for the CCMC School, as well as for the departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, and the Center for Motion Analysis.

Throughout her professional career, Barbara has served on many community boards and task forces, including the Connecticut Association of Private Special Education Facilities (CAPSEF), the CT Comprehensive System of Personnel Development Council, and the Professional Advisory Board of the Learning Disabilities Association of CT. She also served on the Board of Directors of the National Center for Boundless Playgrounds, The Jewish Association for Community Living (JCL), and Community Mental Health Affiliates (CMHA). For the past three years, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Ben Bronz Foundation and currently serves as the Vice Chairman.

Barbara holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Queens College and graduate degrees in Special Education from Brooklyn College, Educational leadership from the University of Hartford, and Healthcare Management from the Hartford Graduate Center (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.)
